The 2010 Banbury Run Report
It was with some trepidation that VMCC HQ approached the organisation of the 2010 event given the fact that this was the first time that the organisation of the event had come entirely “in house”. The weight of history sat firmly on VMCC HQs shoulders as the previous 61 years of successful events stretched behind us!
Thankfully the 62nd running was a fantastic event blessed with great weather. Nearly 600 pre 1931 motor cycles cruising the roads of Warwickshire and Oxfordshire on an idyllic Sunday in June on new routes for 2010 created by Clerk of the Course Harry Wiles.
The Banbury Run is undoubtedly the largest gathering of pre 1931 machines in the world & has a worldwide entry given the fact that we had less than 18 Austrailan riders who had entered the Run for the first time! And what a board age range the Banbury attracts with the oldest machine being a 108 year old Quadrant from 1902 and the youngest rider being James Adams at just 20!
With free entry to The Motor Heritage Centre included in the Spectator ticket price “Gaydon” provides the ideal setting for the event with the excellent Museum adding another dimension to proceedings. This year we were pleased to host 18 Club stands and a sold out Auto jumble which meant there was no shortage of things to do for both entrant & spectator alike.
Events like The Banbury Run do not organise themselves and our special thanks go to over 80 Volunteers for all of the help and support they gave to the HQ team.
The results of the 2010 Banbury Run are listed above and our congratulations go to the Award Winners. Special mention should go to 21 year old Shon Rees who, on his first Banbury Run riding a 29 Flat Tank Norton won a Gold Award & an incredible four other awards as well!
