Dec 15, 2011  VMCC BANBURY RUN 2012 DATES ANNOUNCED   VMCC
The VMCC Ltd is delighted to announce that dates for the 64th VMCC Banbury Run that will be held at the Motor Heritage Centre, Gaydon, Warks on Sunday 17th June 2012.
The Event.
With the support of our sponsors Footman James Insurance Brokers, Bonhams auctioneers & Old Bike Mart the format of the 64th “run” will be similar to 2011 but with new routes and checkpoints to challenge the riders. Indeed, with 600 entrants the VMCC Banbury Run is the biggest gathering & run in the world for machines manufactured before 1931. Operating over 3 different routes which all converge back on Gaydon the Banbury Run caters for those who wish to enter a timed event or those just enjoying the thrill of riding with so many other Vintage, Veteran & Pioneer bikes.
This year discounted entries fees will be available for Veteran machines (manufactured prior to 01/01/15) to encourage more of the very oldest bikes to enter the event.
All 600 places will sell out before the closing date of 28/02/12 so it’s important that the entry forms which are available from VMCC HQ on 03/01/12 are returned as quickly as possible.

Spectators.
The event represents superb value for money because for an all inclusive price of just £7.00 spectators can not only enjoy the day’s event & park for free but also get free entry into the amazing Motor Heritage Museum at Gaydon. Reduced price entry available if booked in advance from the Motor Heritage Centre Ticket Hotline - 01926 645029 (opening times may vary, booking fee applicable).
As in 2011 parking is close by the main entrance to the site which allows those visiting the autojumble to carry their purchases back to their vehicles without too much of a hike!

The Bonhams Auction.
Following on from the enormous success of the first  auction run in conjunction with the event VMCC event partner Bonhams are having a sale of Pioneer, Veteran and Vintage Motorcycle’s the day before the “run” on Sat 16th July 2012. The venue for the auction will be Bonhams prestigious Saleroom at Banbury Rd, Shipton on Cherwell, Kidlington, Oxford, OX5 1JH.

The Autojumble/Club Stands.
Supported by Old Bike Mart the famous Banbury Run autojumble is always a favourite as one of the best sources of Veteran & Vintage Motorcycle spares. If you are interested in an autojumble pitch please contact Vicky Frost at VMCC HQ or email members@vmcc.net
We also have space for Club displays so the VMCC welcomes applications from Clubs both big and small who would like to have a presence at this historic event. Please contact Sam Brown sambrown@vmcc.net for more details.

Hotel Partner.
In 2012 the events official hotel partner will be the luxury 4 Star Barcelo Walton Hall Hotel which is just 6 miles from the Motor Heritage Centre. Very special room rates can be obtained by calling the hotel directly on 01455 898582 quoting “VMCC”.

Can you help?
We rely on dozens of volunteers to make the event happen. We always require marshals to help at the checkpoints on the various routes or on the site itself and can promise you not only a great day out but also a packed lunch! If you would like to help please contact Helen Bensley at VMCC HQ helenbensley@vmcc.net
Jul 30, 2011  BANBURY RUN 2011 EVENT REPORT  VMCC
The National Motor Heritage Centre at Gaydon in Warwickshire is now firmly established as the home of the VMCC Banbury Run and ‘Fathers Day’ (Sunday 19th June this year) has become the traditional date.
This year’s 63rd running of the event saw ideal conditions for the motorcycles – high humidity, dry - but not too warm for the riders to appreciate the scenery and the large crowds of spectators to appreciate the machines. Local knowledge counts for a lot and clerk of the course Harry Wiles and his team had selected an imaginative and attractive series of three routes with an almost total absence of ‘difficult’ road junctions. Plenty of room for both machines and car/trailer parking at Gaydon & slick and imaginative organisation generated the ‘right ‘atmosphere on which to build the day.
Setting off from Gaydon the route could be described as a clock-wise circuit through the Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire countryside taking in a succession of extremely couth villages with their chocolate box pubs and opulent manor houses and included a well-thought-out circuit of Banbury which avoided the worst of its traffic and yet enabled riders to pay their respects to The Cross and, of course, there was the climb up Sunrising Hill towards the end of the day.

Consisting of 3 routes (A, B or C) of differing lengths and a choice of timed or untimed entries timekeeping is not of great importance to the majority of the 600 entrants. It is often the atmosphere generated in the assembly area by the extraordinary collection of machines- some are old favourites, others are new discoveries and there are always new restorations to admire. Out on the roads there are the sights and sounds (and in some instances, smells) of historic motorcycles being put to good use. Old acquaintances are renewed and new friends are made. Hints, tips, advice and experiences are exchanged and some savage amusement can always be found in the huge autojumble. Further details of the 2012 event will be available here in October.
